When the Water Is Muddy

There is an old saying: Muddy water is best cleared by leaving it alone.

I think there is a deep wisdom in this.

Not everything needs to be solved in the moment. Not every question requires an immediate answer. Not every difficult feeling needs to be analyzed, explained, or fixed.

Sometimes, when the waters of our lives become cloudy, our instinct is to stir them even more. We think harder. We worry. We search for answers. We replay conversations. We try to control what cannot yet be understood.

But sometimes the wisest thing we can do is pause.

When muddy water is left undisturbed, the sediment gradually settles. What was once cloudy begins to clear. We can see what was there all along.

The same can happen within us.

Stillness does not mean giving up. It does not mean ignoring what needs attention. It means allowing the mind and heart enough space to settle before we decide what to do.

Perhaps clarity is not always something we find by searching harder.

Perhaps sometimes, we find it by becoming still.

Pause. Breathe. Let the waters settle.

What needs to be solved may become clearer when we stop stirring it.
